Two Colored Girls - Ages 12 & 13 - Shot and wounded before the birth of their first Link Card BabyTwo young girls were injured Tuesday night in a shooting at Cooper Park on the city's Far South Side.
The girls, ages 12 and 13, were wounded shortly before 8 p.m. on the 1300 block of West 117th Street in the West Pullman neighborhood, said police.
Preliminary reports said the girls were inside the park when shots rang out and they were struck. One of the girls ran to a near recreational center where paramedics were called, officials said.
Mildred Shorter, the mother of the older victim said her daughter was walking from the park to a cousin's home with two other girls when they spotted a car swerving across the roadway while blaring loud music and circling the block.
"My daughter said she felt something ill...so she was just trying to get to safety, get to somewhere that she knew," Shorter told WGN-TV. "Her vibe, she (was) feeling something wasn't right."
