Six people were hospitalized after being injured in a shooting late Saturday night in west suburban Maywood, officials said.
Police were called to a home in the 1900 block of South 19th Avenue about 11:48 p.m. after receiving a report of a multiple people being shot at a gathering there, according to Larry Shapiro, spokesperson for the Village of Maywood.
When police arrived, they found six people – a 25-year-old man from Maywood, a 21-year-old Broadview man, two brothers ages 20 and 18 from Broadview, a 20-year-old woman from Addison and a 23-year-old woman from Oak Park – with gunshot wounds. Four of the victims were taken to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood and two were taken to Westlake Hospital in Melrose Park, Shapiro said.
Shapiro said he did not have specific conditions for each of the six victims but said the injuries were not considered to be life-threatening. Four of the victims suffered single gunshot wounds to the leg, the Addison woman was shot in both legs, and the Maywood man was shot in the leg, back and shoulders.
Shapiro said he did not know the nature of the gathering at the 19th Avenue home, saying that the police are in the preliminary stages of their investigation. He said the six victims were inside the home when they were shot, but did not know at this time if there was a single shooter or multiple shooters.
