Officer injured in accidental shooting at Huntington Beach California police station during training session

A Huntington Beach police officer underwent emergency surgery overnight after he was accidentally shot with another officer's gun at the police station, authorities said.

A group of officers had gathered at the station at 2000 Main St. on Wednesday evening for a briefing on a training session they had completed that day when an officer's gun unintentionally went off about 10 p.m., said Lt. Mike Freeman of the Huntington Beach Police Department.

"Unfortunately one of our officers was struck by the round," Freeman said.

Paramedics transported the injured officer — whose name, age and rank have not been released — to UC Irvine Medical Center, where he was still in surgery Thursday morning. Freeman said his injuries were believed to be non-life-threatening.

KTLA -TV called the officer a "veteran" member of the SWAT team, one of about a dozen officers who participated in the training session. The television station said the officers were cleaning their weapons when one accidentally discharged.

The Orange County Sheriff's Department is investigating the incident, Freeman said, which is standard protocol "anytime someone is injured by a firearm involving a police officer."

The name of the officer whose gun discharged has not been released.

There is no such thing as an accidental shooting. It's called a "Negligent Discharge". Someone fucked up , because guns do not fire without human intervention.

I have had many accidental discharges. However, none of them have anything to do with firearms.
