Kids try walking across I-57.... One in critical condition after being struck by a S.U.V.
An 11-year-old boy is in a coma tonight after a sport-utility vehicle hit him on I-57 in the Far South Side's Washington Heights neighborhood, according to authorities and a relative.
At 2:23 p.m., Honda Pilot SUV that was northbound on I-57 near 103rdStreet struck the pedestrian, said Illinois State Police District Chicago Sgt. Anthony Ostrowski.
The boy was taken in critical condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, according to the Chicago Fire Department.
“He was with a couple of other kids on the side of the highway and he just happened to step out in front of the car,'' ISP District Chicago Master Sgt. Robert Satkiewicz said.
The boy remains in a coma tonight, after suffering "major head trauma,''Satkiewicz said.
