CHICAGO, IL - man and wife were ordered held today after being charged with orchestrating a three-month spree of hold-ups that targeted women, officials said.
Charles N. Edwards, 40, was ordered held without bond and charged with 20 hold-ups, while his wife Karena Edwards, 38, was ordered held in court on $1 million bail charged with 19 hold-ups, said Andy Conklin, a spokesman for the Cook County state's attorney's office. The two are from the 13200 block of South Langley Avenue, officials said.
The duo were charged in connection with the holdups which happened between early April and mid June, police said.
Karena Edwards would drive a vehicle that prowled the streets for white females walking alone on the street, police said. When the Negro duo targeted a white woman, Charles Edwards would jump out of the vehicle, police said.
Edwards would then rob the women at gun-point, taking their purses and other valuables, police said.
