Chicago woman attempting to row the 1,500 mile perimeter of Lake Michigan in a fundraising effort to support breast cancer survivors was sexually assaulted in her rowboat early Sunday, police said.
Jenn Gibbons, 27, was in the cabin of her 700-pound rowboat while it was tied to a dock around 4 a.m. Sunday in an area along Lake Michigan in Schoolcraft County, Mich. A man who may have been following Gibbons' journey via her blog opened the hatch to the portion of the vessel where she slept, climbed in and assaulted her, said Sgt. Michael Powell of the Michigan State Police.
Gibbons was able to break free and lock herself in a rest area toilet stall nearby, Powell said. The man eventually left and she called police, Powell said.
