UPDATED: AFRICAN AMERICAN VIOLENCE CONTINUES IN CHICAGO - 4 MURDERED at least a DOZEN SHOT AND WOUNDED in Chicago
Four people were murdered and at least a dozen more were shot and wounded in shootings across Chicago’s South and West sides Friday night and Saturday morning, according to authorities.
Two people were killed and three others wounded in a single shooting on the 5100 block of South May Street in the Back of the Yards neighborhood Friday afternoon, just before 5 p.m. The Cook County medical examiner's office identified the pair who died as 26-year-old Mario Jackson, of the 5100 block of South Morgan Street, and 22-year-old Rashaun Stephany of the 1300 block of West 49th Street.
Another man, 27, was killed during a robbery in the 6800 block of South Indiana Avenue in the Park Manor neighborhood, police said. He was shot before 1 a.m. Saturday. The Cook County medical examiner’s office identified him as Kenneth J. Jones, of the 3800 block of South Cottage Grove Avenue.
Two people were shot on Garfield Bouelvard near State Street and Washington Boulevard in the Washington Park neighborhood - a 24-year-old man at 11:20 p.m. Friday and a 26-year-old man about 4 a.m. Saturday.
The younger of the two was in a courtyard on the boulevard just east of State Street when someone in a blue SUV pulled up and started shooting, hitting him in the leg, police said. He went to Stroger Hospital in good condition, police said. The SUV fled eastbound on Garfield.
The older was around the corner, south of Garfield on Wabash when someone shot him. He told police he was on the sidwalk in a doorway when he heard shots and felt pain in his hand and thigh, where he had been shot. He collapsed and the glass door shattered, police said. The man saw a white van speeding away, police said, and a Chicago Fire Department ambulance took him to Stroger Hospital.
A 21-year-old man walked into Mercy Hospital and Medical Center with a gunshot wound to the leg about 4 a.m., police said. He told police he was shot on the 400 block of West 31st Street in the Bridgeport neighborhood.
A 25-year-old man was shot on the 1200 block of West 49th Place in the Back of the Yards neighborhood about 3:10 a.m., police said. He's in good condition at Stroger Hospital. Someone pulled up in front of a house where the man was sitting on a porch, and the man approached the van. Someone inside asked whether the 25-year-old was in a gang, and he told the man he wasn't. The driver shot him, and fled west on 49th Place and north on Throop Street, police said.
