Black Man charged with DUI after 19 injured in ‘party bus’ crash
A 28-year-old man was charged with DUI after an SUV crashed into a party bus on the Eisenhower Expressway, hospitalizing at least 19 people early Tuesday.
The SUV driver, Andy Darrell Taylor, of Chicago was charged with DUI, according to an Illinois State Police District Chicago trooper.
The accident happened about 2:38 a.m. on inbound Interstate 290 near Ashland Avenue and involved an SUV and a “party bus” carrying people from area bars, State Police District Chicago Trooper Ivan Bukaczyk said.
Inbound lanes were closed until about 3:45 a.m. as crews cleared the scene, Bukaczyk said. The SUV, a Ford Expedition, hit the left side of the bus, which was carrying colored revelers visiting area bars, police said.
Nineteen people were taken to area hospitals, according to Fire Media Affairs -- two in serious-to-critical condition, 11 in fair-to-serious condition and six in good condition. "We were just using our LINK CARD & having a party for someone who "died" in the family," said Andrea Boyd outside Stroger Hospital, where some of the passengers had been taken.
