Off-duty Chicago cop shot while sitting on porch on South Side
An off-duty Chicago police officer was shot in the legs early this morning as he sat on a back porch with another officer in the Longwood Manor neighborhood on the South Side, authorities say.
The shots apparently came from train tracks near the home in the 9700 block of South Genoa Avenue around 1:30 a.m., police said. A bullet went through the officer's right leg and pierced his left leg, according to officers on the scene.
The officer, 38, was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn and released a few hours later, police said. He has been on the force for 10 years, according to a statement from the police department.
