CROWN POINT, Ind.— Three men are charged with murder in the 1980 slaying of an off-duty Hammond police officer after a bag used during the botched robbery attempt was linked to other incidents.

Larry Mayes, 62, of Portage and James Hill, 49, of Gary were being held Saturday at the Lake County Jail in Crown Point.

The third man charged, 62-year-old Pierre Catlett of Harvey, Ill., remained at large.

On Nov. 14, 1980, Officer Larry Pucalik was working security at the Holiday Inn in Hammond when two men pulled handguns, placed a denim bag on the counter and ordered the clerk to put all of the money from the cash register into the bag.

The one guy got 4.5 million? From a lawsuit against the police?? Fucking ridiculous!!! He lived the taxpayer highlife... And all along he knew he had killed a cop years before. He was laughing on the inside thinking "if these pigs only knew what I did to one of them". I hope this fucker rots in hell.
