When my son and daughter were that young I would never ever let them go into any pool or body of water without myself or their mother present at the time...To trust some young kids working a summer job to your child if not only DANGEROUS but FUCKING STUPID! But today all these parents want to pawn their children off to somebody else...
Wednesday would have been Vicente Cardenas' fifth birthday. But instead of handing out pieces of cake, the boy's family is seeking answers about the events that led to his drowning Friday at a public pool in Glenview.
Vicente was among 19 children and eight adults from the private Wesley Child Care Center's summer camp program who visited Roosevelt Outdoor Pool that day for open swim, and his uncle said Wednesday that Vicente was excited about the visit. But he apparently slipped into the water unnoticed by lifeguards or chaperons.
A witness said a lifeguard pulled the boy from water 5 feet deep. Vicente was later pronounced dead at a Glenview hospital.
"We need to understand some basic things," said the boy's uncle, Val Gurvits. "Who was in charge of watching him? Where did they think he was? Where was the rest of the class?"
