A man wearing a wig who was cut from an air duct in an Oak Lawn strip mall this morning has been charged with robbing a bank after dropping from a ceiling and confronting two employees with a gun in a vault, officials said.
Charles Estell, 38 of Chicago was charged in U.S. District Court with one count of bank robbery, the FBI said. Estell was ordered held without bond and scheduled to appear Tuesday at court at 2 p.m., the FBI said. He faces a sentence of up to 20 years if convicted.
Estell was arrested in a building in the 11100 block of South Pulaski Road after police found him shortly after midnight "hiding in an air duct so tight he had to be cut out," said Oak Lawn Police Division Chief Michael Kaufmann.
The air duct was in an office next to the bank branch, the FBI said in a press release.
