Alderman, "Seeing you Supt. Garry McCarthy on the front lines reminded me of the scene from the movie "THE TEN COMMANDMENTS" when Moses parted the Red Sea!"
Chicago aldermen were busy handing out recognition on Wednesday for the successful NATO summit.
Councilman praised Mayor Emanuel, Police Supt. Garry McCarthy, Fire Commissioner Jose Santiago, and other officials for their handling of the summit.
Though police did clash with protesters at times, overall the demonstrations were peaceful and calm.
“Indeed it is a difficult challenge to manage the safety of the city and the rights of the protesters when both must be guarded,“ said Ald. Ed Burke, 14th ward.
“I thought it was a tremendous job that our police department, fire, and everybody here," added Ald. Richard Mell, 33rd ward.
Ald. Ray Suarez praised McCarthy for supporting his officers during the most violent clashes. He said it was a perfect example of leading from the top.
