Chicago FOP 7 Web Updates

Violence Reduction Overtime Initiative Update - D2A (Detectives cannot work it)
The Lodge has received numerous questions regarding the newly announced Violence Reduction Overtime Initiative Update.
The most frequently asked questions are:

1) How can the Department limit this overtime opportunity to officers in D-1 and D-2 pay grades?

The Lodge first challenged the Department's ability to do this when this limitation was imposed during the 2008 Chicago Marathon. A class action grievance was filed by the Lodge. The grievance went to a full arbitration hearing. The arbitrator ruled in favor of the Department. In essence, he stated that a greater number of officers could be available at a lower pay grade while a lesser number of officers would be available at a higher pay grade if the same amount of money was available in both instances.

2) How can the Department impose certain criteria to be eligible to participate in the overtime initiative?

The Department instituted an overtime initiative called Operation Safe City in 2009 that was restricted to certain officers in the Bureau of Patrol who were assigned to directly perform law enforcement functions. Several members filed grievances that went to a full arbitration hearing. The arbitrator actually split his decision. He granted the Department the ability to impose criteria on who would be eligible to participate. He ruled in favor of the the Lodge when he forced the Department to open the initiative to all members in D-1 and D-2 pay grades regardless of where assigned as long as they met the criteria.

3) Can I file a grievance over the pay grade or criteria limitations?

While any member certainly has the ability to file a grievance, the reality is that the Lodge would likely be unsuccessful in pursuing the grievance given the fact that arbitration decisions have already been rendered regarding these issues.

Firearms Safety Days

Firearms Safety Days will be held on June 13th and 14th at FOP Hall from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Members can receive no-cost safety inspections of duty-related weapons by representatives of various gun manufacturers. We ask that members limit themselves to two duty-related weapons inspections.

Certified firearms instructors will be present to offer qualification tips.

Members also have the option of having their leather goods and safety vests inspected.

Please contact Frank DiMaria at 312-733-7776 for additional information.

Father's Day Mass

There will be a Father's Day Mass at Gold Star Memorial and Park on Sunday, June 17, 2012 at 10:00 am. The Mass will be completed at 10:30 am to accomodate on-duty worshippers. Ample free parking will be available adjacent to the site.

While this is a Catholic Mass, ALL are welcome to come and honor dads whose names are inscribed on the walls of the memorial. Bring a lawn chair / blanket ... and if you wish, food for a picnic lunch after Mass.

Yep CFD finally finally played and beat a good CPD team. Usually the only top team they play is CPD in their 3 years in the league. They schedule the worst teams in the league then lose to CPD. But they did win this year barely. But hey hose jockey? How many rings they have? NONE, we have atleast have one ha ha ha

Detectives should be alowed to work this at Patrolmans wages. Why are big Bosses allowed to work it at their over-inflated Salaries ? It should be set up where anyone can work it, at one set rate, take it or leave it, Bosses included. Not enough Boss Takers ? Let the On-Duty Bosses handle the Supervisory role.
