68 years ago today - The largest invasion ever - D-Day

June 6, 1944, 160,000 Allied troops landed along a 50-mile stretch of heavily-fortified French coastline to fight Nazi Germany on the beaches of Normandy, France. General Dwight D. Eisenhower called the operation a crusade in which “we will accept nothing less than full victory.” More than 5,000 Ships and 13,000 aircraft supported the D-Day invasion, and by day’s end on June 6, the Allies gained a foot- hold in Normandy. The D-Day cost was high -more than 9,000 Allied Soldiers were killed or wounded -- but more than 100,000 Soldiers began the march across Europe to defeat Hitler.

God bless these HEROES!

As usual SCC manages to miss this one also. I would imagine that SCC's editors missed Viet Nam, also.

So many ordinary people doing extraordinary things. Too bad they fathered the baby boom assholes that have given us the troubles we have now, they spent entirely too much time telling their children how special they are. And not to forget the children of the baby boomers, the shits we have now occupying this and that. I get a trophy too! We don't keep scores, all the children are winners!

But, some of the "Greatest Generation" gave us heroes and some of us, have given you the Armed Forces heroes we have today. Every bit as brave as their predecessors, but bigger, better trained and better equipped. The men in the military today are more than the equal of their Viet Nam and WW2 counterparts. They might not have more heart but they have learned from the past.

I think sometimes people forget that names like actor Jimmy Stewart and other big names served proudly in WWII

They have???Why are troops sent to drive around in Hummers to get blown up for no reason,no real misson. They did that in Vietnam by walking the same trails waiting to get ambushed.

Not slamming or faulting the individual soldier, they have no say in the matter, only pawns with a heavy price to pay.

They died so their descendents can elect a President like Obama. Make your own judgment on that one.

Our military is by far better than ever. They might still make mistakes, but we lose far less in battle and kill far fewer civilians than before.

BTW, I was referring to the individual serviceman learning from the past. They are smarter and better trained. They have equipment that helps keep out of harms way. They train a Marine for over a year before they send them into a combat zone now.

Proud to have known many Greatest Generation WW 2 Combat Vets, including my Dad, and Uncles. They are surely spinning in their graves knowing Obama the Commie is POTUS, along with his Army of Marxist Hippie Rejects from the 60's & 70's.
may God Bless ALL U.S. Military Vets.

Obama never even spoke about it.

If Hitler would have won, we would still have a white, awesome country.

Fact: we killed the wrong pig in WWII.

Does it surprise anyone that Obama does not want to remind America of the great nation they once were.

If we went back to those values, Obama would be out of his ass.
