A 21-year-old Chicago man is scheduled to appear in Will County court on charges stemming from a 2010 home invasion in far south suburban Crete during which a 70-year-old man was beaten and bound by a group of men.
Chakaris R. Evans of the 3800 block of West 80th Place was booked into the Will County Adult Detention Facility Wednesday on a warrant charging him with two counts of home invasion, one count of residential burglary, two counts of aggravated battery and one count of aggravated identity theft.
Evans allegedly was with fellow Chicagoans Rashid J. McCarthy, 21, of the 8200 block of Kilbourne Avenue, Jeffery Burks, 22, of the 3700 block of West 81st Place and Paul J. Evans III, 21, of the 1500 block of North Long Avenue when they forced their way into the home on the 23000 block of South Jonathan Lane on July 2, 2010. Paul J. Evans is the resident's grandson.
The resident told Will County Sheriff's Police he was persuaded to open his door around 6:35 a.m. by a lone man, who said he was returning a cloth bag belonging to a grandson who had been staying at the home.
Three other men wearing black masks joined the first man and they forced their way in.
Two of the men beat the elderly resident with aluminum and wood baseball bats while pushing him to the floor, eventually breaking his kneecap.
