Ledo's Pizza in Countryside, IL - Employees tackle life long career criminal attempting to hold up the restaurant with a gun
A group of Ledo's Pizza employees tackled and held an armed robber for police this morning at the restaurant in south suburban Countryside.
Shortly after midnight, a 53-year-old man entered the pizzeria on the 5500 block of LaGrange Road brandishing a gun and demanding cash, according to a news release from the Countryside Police Department.
After he took the cash and tried to escape, several employees tried to subdue him, police said. A struggle began and the robber was injured.
The employees then held him down on the floor until police arrived. Later the robber's weapon was determined to be a BB gun, police said.
The robber, who lives free via Section 8 vouchers at the LaGrange Motel near the pizzeria, has a long criminal history that includes 17 convictions, according to the news release and is totally supported by welfare benefits and food stamps.
He was taken into custody but as of 2:45 p.m., he has not been charged.
