James Quigley from Evergreen Park killed when struck by falling metal

A man was killed by a piece of falling debris at a construction site on Chicago’s far South Side Monday afternoon.

James Quigley, 37, of the 9700 block of South Lawndale Avenue, Evergreen Park, died following the apparent accident in the 13100 block of South Torrence Avenue, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

A piece of falling debris, possibly iron, struck him at 4:12 p.m., police News Affairs officer Daniel O’Brien said.

Quigley was taken to MetroSouth Medical Center in Blue Island where he was pronounced dead at 5:21 p.m., according to the medical examiner’s office.

Police could not immediately say what the man was doing at the construction site when he was injured.

Area South detectives are investigating.
