People paid $100.00 to ride an old CTA train to raise money...
Firefighters are responding to a CTA train derailment in the Loop neighborhood Sunday involving an elevated Green Line train.
An elevated Green Line train carrying about 40 train buffs and other CTA riders derailed this morning near State and14th Street in the Loop, though no one was injured. Nearly all of those aboard the three-car L train were able to walk down on their own via a nearby walkway. The Fire Department used a bucket train to carry down the few onboard who couldn’t climb down themselves, including one person who had a caste.
The 40 excursion riders paid about $100 for the morning excursion, to help raise money to preserve old L trains at the Illinois Railway Museum in downstate Union. They began the morning on a Blue Line from Forest Park to downtown, switching to the Pink Line, then the Green Line, stopping along way to look at rail yards and other train highlights. Wheels on the last car came off the rail and kicked a switch.
