Chicago Cops: Officers catch bank robbery suspect red-handed

Photo: Chicago police officers John McCarthy (left) and Luis Novalez arrested a bank robbery suspect at the CTA Clark/Division stop Friday.

CHICAGO, IL - Plainclothes officer Luis Novalez knew he had his man the minute he laid eyes on the guy trying hard to blend into a crowd getting on a CTA bus near Clark and Division streets.

There was red dye splattered all over his jeans -- dye apparently hidden in a pack of money from a bank robbed just an hour ago.

"At that point I knew this is the guy,” said Novalez, with the Near North police district. “There’s no way he’s getting away.”

The suspect fled down the stairs of the Red Line subway stop but didn't get far. Novalez and his two partners -- officers Anthony Odeshoo and John McCarthy -- grabbed him and pulled him to the ground.

The man is facing federal charges of robbing the North Community Bank at 800 N. State St., authorities said. The robber, wearing a blue jacket, walked into the bank around 11 a.m., according to FBI spokeswoman Joan Hyde. She did not know if he was armed.

This is why I love working in Area 3 (at least until tomorrow that is).

Just look at these handsome young men posing for that picture on the stairs. They look so darling in their little vests and gunbelts.

I think I have to sit down. I am getting the vapors.

Now, kees me you fool!!!!

Good job.

I am glad the cops could tell the different between the dye from the bait pack and the period blood from this pussy robber just being on the rag.

No one likes to goof on the north side police more than I do, but anytime you catch a bank robber, an ATTABOY applies.

If you see a knucklehead walking around with red dye on him, perhaps a street stop is applicable.

Where the 3rd PO involved in this? Do the paper work for the 2 guys taking the photo opportunity.
