1-year-old baby and her mother both shot and wounded in South Side shooting as black violence skyrockets in Chicago
A mother and her 1-year-old suffered graze wounds in a shooting in the East Chatham neighborhood this afternoon, authorities said.
The two were injured about 3:20 p.m. while in the area of 79th Street and Maryland Avenue, said Chicago Police Department News Affairs Officer Darryl Baety.
The 1-year-old was taken to Comer Children's Hospital and the mother to the University of Chicago medical center after suffering graze wounds, said Chicago Fire Department spokesman Will Knight.
Including the mother and child, least 41 people have suffered gunshot wounds this weekend in Chicago, including a 6-year-old girl and seven other people who have died from gunshot wounds since 5 p.m. on Friday.
