Stolen U-Haul hits Chicago cop car, evades police

Chicago, IL - A stolen U-Haul truck crashed into a Chicago Police Department car Friday night before leading police on an on-again-off-again pursuit into the suburbs and back toward the city.

Nobody is in custody, and police are still looking for the truck and its driver.

The pursuit started about 10:45 p.m. when police saw a stolen U-Haul truck near 1800 West Erie Street, Chicago Police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer said.

During the pursuit, a city cop car was hit, but it's unclear where, what time, or whether the car was marked. The officers' injuries weren't life-threatening, Greer said.

Chicago police ended their pursuit, Greer said.

A few spike strips would have made this a short pursuit. Work smarter not harder.......too afraid to use them.

The ISP refused to get involved unless the offender had taken part in a forceful felony. I wasn't aware until last night that they had that policy. Regardless, ramming a squad car should have been considered a forceful felony. Any updates? As I was leaving work he was spotted again in 013. About an hour after the original chase.

A "high-speed chase" in a U-Haul? Since when is that even possible?

Too many details on that report?

Monitor the zones to get more.

Chickenshit pursuit policy made it a "chase"!

Box em and get new cars don't let him go thru six districts for an hour and a half.

Add to that we don't have any manpower and this Asshole wasn't focused just an Asshole!

Rode behind a uhaul with az plates from work today down north west highway heading east. It was rolling a little slow, looked in the rear windows riding by; saw some furniture and such, passed it by on the right, two mexicans headed into the sancutary city I suppose.

peace and love, peace and love.

Most, if not all, U-Haul trucks have AZ plates. I think the company is based in AZ.

Offenders are in custody. My buddy is a suburban copper and heard about the chase at work. He then went to his side gig at a suburban Walmart and saw a M/1 passenger in a U-Haul with front end damage. He called it in, the plates came back hot, and they sent the cavalry. They got M/1 in the truck, then got M/2 inside the store. Apparantly, inside the store, there was a bit of a scuffle where the offender and the A/O's tumbled over a stack of tv's on display.

ironically both the plates on the uhaul and the jerkoff 1120 sergeants initials are AZ, what are the odds?!?!?!?

I was on lake street when this douche almost hit me head on! I had my baby in the at luckily I got out of the way soon enough. And I was at Walmart when the cops were searching the uhaul truck and towed it away. I parked right next to them and was able to ask the cop if he had got the guy and he said yea.
