Official Statement by State Police: Search for Stacy yields possum bones but no human remains

Peoria, IL - The anthropologist who helped authorities search for Stacy Peterson's body on a farm near Peoria over the weekend said only a shallow drain and a pair of opossum skeletons have been found so far.

Cadaver dogs led authorities to three locations on the overgrown property near Kickapoo Creek and the most promising one was excavated on Saturday, said anthropologist Alan Harn. No human remains were found.

The search was halted Saturday night, and it's not clear when or if it will resume. An Illinois State Police spokesman did not immediately return a call this afternoon.

Harn has recommended that authorities use ground-penetrating radar to refine their search of the property. He said authorities also could use an earthmover to scrape off the topsoil and look for burial sites.

Stacy Peterson's husband, Drew Peterson, a former Bolingbrook police sergeant, is scheduled to go on trial next month for the murder of his third wife, Kathleen Savio. He is the sole suspect in Stacy's 2007 disappearance but has not been charged.

Peterson has denied involvement in Stacy's disappearance and has pleaded not guilty to charges he drowned Savio in her bathtub in 2004.

The Big Hollow Sportsman's Club is adjacent to the property where authorities searched over the weekend.

"All of us are shocked. This is a really quiet, small community," said Reed Landmark, a 30-year member of the club.

Drew Peterson is not a member of the club, which sits on about 10 acres along Kickapoo Creek, Landmark said. A narrow rural road -- with a gate blocking the entrance -- leads to the club building tucked away in pastures.

The club flies under the radar and doesn't even have a Web site, longtime member Bill Russell said.

Russell said he's studied a photo of Drew Peterson and doesn't believe he hung around the club, even as a guest.

Let's see how the White House is REALLY handling the oil crisis in the Gulf Coast

Natural gas pipeline explodes in north Texas: report
Up to 13 people dead....
HOUSTON (Reuters) –
A natural gas pipeline exploded in north Texas on Monday afternoon, CNN reported.
The blast was originally thought to be an oil well explosion.
An electrical crew was digging a hole when it struck the gas pipeline, an emergency services spokesman in Hood County, Texas, said.
WFAA-TV, the Dallas/Fort Worth station, reported three people were dead and 10 were unaccounted for after the blast.

Forest Preserve District's expensive police paradise
The Watchdogs: The Forest Preserve District of Cook County spent nearly $2 million to buy a single-family home on five acres in Westchester as a buffer for the nearby Wolf Road Prairie. But rather than tear down the house, they renovated it into a headquarters for the preserve police -- a project that came in three times over budget. After all that, the building might not be a police station for long; the forest preserve police force might soon be eliminated.

06-06-2010 is the 66th Anniversary of the D-Day Invasion

A wreath is laid on the tomb of US soldier Edward M. Withers, from Wisconsin, who died on July 12, 1944, at the Colleville US cemetary, western France, Sunday June 6, 2010, on the 66th anniversary of the D-Day. (AP Photo/Remy de la Mauviniere)

These number are just for the D-Day Invasion Day:
The number of Allied combat casualties on D-Day is approximated at
10,000, of whom 2,500 died.

Here is the breakdown of the casualties:

British - 2700
Canadians - 946
Americans - 6603

15,000-20,000 French civilians died with an unknown number of casualites.

Source: http://www.ddaymuseum.co.uk/faq.htm

Britain: 2,700 killed
United States: 1,465 killed
Canada: 500 killed
Germany: 4,000 killed

COLVILLE-SUR-MER, France—Veterans and those grateful for their sacrifices have marked the 66th anniversary of the D-Day landings, remembering the invasion that turned the tide of World War II.

U.S. veteran William Duane Bush, wearing a military jacket, raised the American flag at the Normandy American Cemetery in Colleville-sur-Mer, which overlooks Omaha Beach. It was the first time 93-year-old Bush of Lincoln, Nebraska had returned to Europe since the war's end.

An ecumenical service was held at the cathedral in the town of Bayeux, where a wreath-laying service also took place at the British military cemetery.

Some 215,000 Allied soldiers, and roughly as many Germans, were killed or wounded during D-Day and the ensuing nearly three months it took to secure the capture of Normandy.

Jody J-Fled Weis Admits He Is "Challenged" - But most of us already knew that!

Jody "J-Fled" Weis: 'Homicides continue to challenge us'
Chicago's homicides are up nearly 4 percent compared with last year, Chicago police Superintendent Jody Weis said today.

While overall crime has dropped nearly 6 percent in Chicago, homicides have increased 3.8 percent, according to crime trends through the end of May. There were 164 homicides between January and May, six more than last year during the same time.

"Homicides continue to challenge us," Weis said.

There have been 28 homicides involving Chicago Public Schools students through the end of May for the 2009-10 school year. That's three fewer than in the 2008-09 school year.

Weis asked parents to make sure their children comply with curfew laws as the summer approaches. In May alone, there were more than 1,600 curfew violations in the city, Weis said. Children younger than 17 are supposed to be indoors by 10 p.m. on weekdays and 11 p.m. on weekends.

"Police shouldn't have to do the job of parents," he said. "Please, this summer, know where your kids are."

At the same news conference, Weis said a Country Club Hills woman who was shot during a heated card game might have still been alive if there had not been a gun in her friend's Calumet Heights home. Patricia Clark was shot multiple times Thursday after an argument with her friend, who went into a back bedroom, grabbed a gun and fired. Clark, 51, died Saturday.

"What a horrible loss of life over a card game," Weis said. "This is why it's so dangerous to have weapons in the house. People get upset, they get angry. ... If that gun wasn't in the house, there's probably an excellent chance that woman would be alive today."

The woman who shot the victim is in police custody, but charges had not been filed as of Sunday afternoon.

In the last couple of weeks, police have declined to seek criminal charges against two residents who shot intruders, despite the city's decades-old handgun ban. Both residents appear to have used a gun in self-defense, according to police. Detectives are still gathering the evidence in both cases, Weis said.

The U.S. Supreme Court is expected to rule this month on the constitutionality of Chicago's 28-year gun ban.

"I know there's a general thought that the handgun ban will be overturned," Weis said. "It's a little premature to talk about that until we actually have the decision."

I believe that Jody Weis went on to say... "The only reason homicides are up is because more people are being killed!"

Prosecutor Mike Nifong Removed From Duke University Rape Case

Durham County District Attorney Mike Nifong has been disbarred after being found guilty of a battery of ethics violations for his handling of the Duke Lacrosse investigation, a North Carolina & will be jailed.

Detective Shavedlongcock believes you will see this headline one day:

Will County State's Attorney James Glasgow Presents Drew Peterson a Check for $10,000,000.00 in a settlement of wrongful criminal imprisonment - a day before James Glasgow reports for jail.

But the real deciding factor for Drew Peterson to accept this settlement was the Folo's Beef VIP Card and the Folo's Beef Gift Certificate! That put the icing on the cake for Drew... Drew's only wish was that Stacy was still with him and had not run off so they could enjoy Folo's beef together... On a romantic picnic!

Hmmmmm..... Why a 10-99 car was handling a double shoplifter case is beyond me? Maybe because this dept. is short cops? I would sue the CPD too then!

Female Chicago Cop Sues - Target Store didn't secure shoplifters

A Chicago Police officer who says she was beaten and thrown against a wall by two shoplifters at Target is suing the retail giant for an undisclosed amount, claiming they should have done a better job of securing them.

Victoria Onorato filed a suit in Cook County Circuit Court Friday against Target and an unidentified employee of the store at 2656 N. Elston.

The suit says in June 2008, Onorato arrived at the Target to arrest two female shoplifters accused of stealing swimwear. The two were not put in a secured detention room per procedure and instead were kept on an unsecured bench where they got in an argument with the unidentified employee, the suit said.

When Onorato went to handcuff one of the women, the officer was thrown into a wall and kicked repeatedly. Onorato suffered a rotator cuff tear that required surgery and rehab therapy and kept her out of work for a year, the suit says.

The suit claims the employee instigated the argument. Target officials could not be reached for comment.

(CHICAGO)(WLS-TV) -- A teenager was shot while he was reportedly handing out flyers for an anti-violence event.

The shooting happened shortly after 5 p.m. Friday at 67th Street and Blackstone.

Police say the 18-year old suffered a gunshot wound to the head.

The director of the Woodlawn Organization tells ABC7 Chicago that Johnathan Lee was working for her group. She says the flyers were for a week-long event sponsored by Ceasefire.

Tornadoes hit central Illinois

Tornadoes hit central Illinois
A severe storm system moved through Illinois Saturday night, bringing mostly heavy rain to the Chicago area but spawning tornados that damaged a swath of north-central Illinois in a line generally from Peoria to Kankakee.

The brunt of the storm system passed through south of the I-80 corridor, with reports of tornados touching down near Peoria, Streator, Dwight and Kankakee before the system moved off into Indiana.

About 10:20 p.m. a tornado was spotted near St. Anne, about 7 miles southeast of Kankakee, moving east at 35 mph, according to the National Weather Service.

There was a report of a tornado touchdown near Peoria a little after 8 p.m., at a shopping center at routes 150 and 91. Another tornado was sighted near Streator, with damage reports there and in Putnam County.

About 9:18 p.m. a possible tornado was reported near Dwight, as the storm moved east toward Kankakee and Indiana. As of early Sunday, emergency crews were out in force and reports of the extent of the damage were beginning to come in.

Eddie Lavallie, who lives in Oglesby, said he drove through Streator soon after the tornado hit and he saw a lot of damage, especially on the south side of town.

"I saw people coming out of their homes right after the tornado hit; a second story of a house was taken off," Lavallie said.

He saw old trees, 3-feet-wide, split in half. "Streator is just devastated," he said.

Lavallie was 5 miles behind the storm, following the tornado on I-18, he said.

"I saw a black cloud, whenever the lightening would strike," he said. "I heard trees cracking. I saw people coming out of their houses, dazed, with flashlights."

Lavallie described the scene on the south edge of Streator as a "war zone."

"The city is leveled," he said.

Lavallie said he didn't see any injuries, but he heard neighbors calling for neighbors. Live wires were in the streets, he said.

He also found a couple of girls who couldn't find their home on 6th Street. "I just hope those people down there are OK; my hopes and prayers are with them."

Ameren Illinois Utilities issued a release early Sunday, warning of broken utility poles and downed power lines throughout portions of central Illinois.

Residents in areas without lights should not venture outdoors after dark, and when daylight returns, residents should stay away from downed wires. Furthermore, stay away from brush, downed trees and limbs and any debris that may conceal downed power lines, the utility warned.

WOW - Even the state of Delaware has gone to the shitbirds too...

3 Delaware men face drug charges

New York (CNN) -- Three Delaware men face charges after police found about a pound of heroin and a pistol in the car driven by one of them, authorities said Friday.

The arrests, which occurred Thursday morning, capped a 6-month investigation by the Wilmington police and the Drug Enforcement Administration, according to a news release from the Wilmington Police Department.

Just before 2 a.m. Thursday, detectives were following a 2005 Dodge Durango carrying the men from Philadelphia International Airport to Wilmington when the driver, Marquis Lopez, 27, realized he was being followed and sped off, the news release said.

Delaware State Police stopped the car after a chase, took the three men into custody and called a drug-sniffing dog. After the dog alerted to drugs, a subsequent search of the truck revealed a hidden compartment containing a loaded Glock .40 caliber handgun and 19,500 bags of heroin -- each containing 0.025 grams of the drug, police said.

"This was a major bust to the supply of heroin to Wilmington," Sgt. Steven Barnes told CNN. "Lopez is one of the larger suppliers to Wilmington street dealers. The hidden compartment was done very professionally, [but the] dogs still hit on it without a problem."

The heroin -- estimated to weigh a total of 487.5 grams, or nearly 1.1 pounds -- had an estimated street value of $195,000, police said.

No bail was set for Lopez, who was turned over to the DEA for federal charges; his passengers -- Keenan Wallace, 27, and David Flowers, 27 -- were charged with trafficking heroin and possession with intent to deliver heroin and conspiracy. They were taken to Howard Young Prison in lieu of $550,000 and $266,000 bail respectively.

They haven't been able to charge this asswipe with one murder but now they think he's a serial killer

Joran Van der Sloot, suspected of killing 2 women 5 years apart, likely a 'serial killer'
Dutch national Joran Van der Sloot is suspected of killing two women, Natalee Holloway and Stephany Flores.

A top Peruvian official suspects the Dutch playboy linked to two high-profile murders committed precisely five years apart is a serial killer.

"We are probably talking about a serial killer," said Interior Minister Octavio Salazar as Joran Van der Sloot was returned Friday to face murder charges in Peru.

The suspect arrived aboard a Chilean police Cessna 310, with authorities grabbing him at the border town of Tacna.

Van der Sloot was arrested a day earlier in Chile while fleeing to a seaside resort. He had been on the lam for five days.

The suspect ignored shouted questions from reporters before he was led away. He told investigators in Chile that he did not kill Stephany Flores.

The 22-year-old is suspected of snapping the woman's neck inside his Lima hotel room on Sunday - the fifth anniversary of Alabama teen Natalee Holloway's disappearance in Aruba.

In both cases, the women were last seen alive late at night in Van der Sloot's company.

His flight was possibly funded by $5,000 in casino winnings stolen from Flores, South American authorities said. He paid $620 for a cab ride from Lima to neighboring Chile.

The Dutch national was carrying two bags of luggage and chain-smoking as he departed the morning after the Flores killing, his cabbie said yesterday.

The father of the latest victim echoed Salazar's concerns about Van der Sloot's appetite for violence.

"This isn't a coincidence; this is murder," said Ricardo Flores, a former racecar driver. "There's a matter pending in Aruba, and we don't know how many more remain unpunished."

Flores, 21, was beaten so brutally that her neck was broken, and her battered body bore multiple bruises and scratches. No weapon was found, indicating the killer used his bare hands.

While Van der Sloot was in custody, Alabama prosecutors accused him of promising to provide the location of the long-missing teen's body for a $250,000 payoff.

Court papers didn't identify the target of the extortion plot, but did charge Van der Sloot collected $15,000. Holloway's family hails from Mountain Brook, Ala.

Congratulations From DSLC - Rush Limbaugh to wed gal pal Kathryn Rogers today in lavish Palm Beach ceremony

Kathryn Rogers and Rush Limbaugh are set to wed Saturday in Palm Beach.
Rush Limbaugh to wed gal pal Kathryn Rogers today in lavish Palm Beach ceremony

It's wedding bells for Rush Limbaugh – for the fourth time.

The conservative firebrand, 59, will exchange vows Saturday in Florida with Kathryn Rogers – a blond bombshell half his age – in a lavish Hawaiian-themed wedding bash headlined by none-other-than Sir Elton John.

It's an odd pairing considering El Rushbo's history of anti-gay commentary on his conservative radio show and the openly gay "Tiny Dancer" singer's longtime commitment to gay rights.

The Palm Beach Post reported the British superstar will pocket $1 million for playing the wedding reception at the posh Breakers Hotel.

The hotel has reportedly staffed about 50 additional security guards for the event.

Limbaugh and Rogers, 33, hosted a rehearsal dinner luau for 400 close friends and family at the hotel Friday night and the wedding will take place at Limbaugh's beachfront mansion at an undisclosed time.

Rogers told the Post in 2008 that the couple's age gap is part of what makes the romance work.

"I grew up so differently, traveling around the world, that I'm sometimes not able to relate to the average person my age," Rogers said. "Rush has such amazing experience."

The always outspoken radio talk show host has been uncharacteristically tight-lipped about his wedding plans – posting only a vague note on his website that he would be "out until Tuesday, June 15."

He made a plea for privacy in an e-mail statement to the Post.

"We try to live our lives as normal people. We do not seek media attention. We do not want it, especially for this," he wrote.

Limbaugh met Rogers in 2004 at a celebrity golf tournament.

He was divorcing his third wife at the time and the pair has dated for three years.

Authorities: ID theft ring paid for woman's 'tummy tuck'

Silly bitch... had this shithead waited a little bit she could have gotten one for free under the ObamaCare Health Plan!

A South Side woman, along with her mother and brother, allegedly ran an identity theft ring using victims' credit cards and debit cards to buy furniture and get the woman a "tummy tuck" surgical procedure, according to police and prosecutors.

Charged were Ayondela Moore, 35, of the 8300 block of South Green Street; Herman Campbell, 26, and Corine Moore, 63, both of the 7300 block of South Troy Street.

While executing a search warrant at the younger Moore's address on Green Street, police found fraudulent credit cards and evidence of bank accounts in the name of numerous victims, police said. They also discovered Moore had a "tummy tuck" procedure last October allegedly using a health care credit card opened in the name of one of her victims.

Chicago police hit suburban drug ring - more than $2 million altogether in cannabis, cocaine and methamphetamine

Various drug investigations net six arrests
Six men were arrested during separate narcotics investigations in Chicago and the suburbs this week that netted more than $2 million altogether in cannabis, cocaine and methamphetamine, Chicago police said today.

Chicago police assigned to the narcotics division executed a search warrant shortly before 5 p.m. Thursday in west suburban Countryside, where they discovered more than 100 marijuana plants inside a residence in the 9600 block of West 56th Street, they said, adding that the marijuana has an estimated street value of over $400,000.

Agron Batovski, 38, of the same address was charged with a felony count of producing cannabis plants.

Meanwhile, officers also found more than $48,000 worth of cocaine along with methamphetamine, valued at nearly $2,000, after arresting another man Thursday during a separate narcotics investigation on Chicago's Northwest Side.

Arrested in the 2600 block of North Lavergne Avenue in connection with that seizure was Mario Lua Guizar, 38, of the 5000 block of West Schubert Avenue, police said. He was charged with cocaine possession and methamphetamine possession.

In two separate investigations, police said, Narcotics division officers arrested four men Wednesday on the Southwest Side and in south suburban Hazel Crest. Those probes resulted in cocaine and cannabis seizures with a combined estimated value of more than $1.5 million.

Officers were conducting surveillance late Wednesday afternoon at a far south suburban location when they saw two men exit a vehicle and enter a sport-utility vehicle, police said. The men drove to a residence in the 3500 block of West 194th Street in south suburban Homewood, where they backed the SUV inside a garage.

One of the men entered the residence and returned with a large container before both men drove away in the SUV from the location, police said.

Officers conducted a traffic stop in the 17500 block of Kedzie Avenue in south suburban Hazel Crest, where a dog discovered narcotics inside the vehicle, police said. Several bricks of cocaine were found inside it along with several bales of cannabis, police said, altogether totaling an estimated street value of more than $1 million.

Charged with cannabis trafficking and possession of cocaine in that seizure are Ivan Hernandez, 28, of Victorville, Calif. and Miguel Vega, 35, of Lynwood, Calif.

In another narcotics investigation late Wednesday afternoon, two men were arrested on Chicago's Southwest Side in connection with the discovery of what police said was estimated to be more than $500,000 in cocaine. A weapon and approximately $89,000 in cash also were confiscated, police said.

The men were seen transferring a container between a residence and a vehicle on separate occasions, police said. Officers approached the men and discovered they were transporting cocaine inside a container that was stored inside the vehicle, police said.

Charged with possession of cocaine were Moses Valencia, 27, and Jose Mendoza, 43, both of Yakima, Wash.

Court information was not available.

Cops: Nothing yet in Peterson search
Prompted by a new lead in Stacy Peterson's disappearance, Illinois State Police have begun digging in rural central Illinois today in search of the Bolingbrook woman's body.

DSLC's guess.... Drew is just having fun with the assholes who put him in jail - I can't see Drew saying anything to fellow prisoner...

AS REPORTED ON TMZ.com

Cops May Have Found Body of Drew Peterson's Wife
There may be a huge break in the disappearance of Drew Peterson's third wife. TMZ has learned authorities believe they may know exactly where the body is buried, and then plan to dig for it tomorrow.

Law enforcement sources tell TMZ ... Peterson, an ex-cop who is currently behind bars awaiting trial for the murder of his third wife, told an inmate yesterday how he killed Stacy Peterson, wife number 4. Stacy's body has never been recovered.

Our sources say Peterson told the inmate he had an accomplice help him dispose of the body. The inmate then told authorities about his discussion with Peterson, which led them to the alleged accomplice. We're told the accomplice informed Will County Sheriff's officials and prosecutors that the body was buried just outside Peoria, Illinois.

Will County Sheriff's deputies and prosecutors took the alleged accomplice to Peoria Friday, and the accomplice led them to private hunting grounds. The owner allowed authorities to enter his property and the accomplice then led them to the site where Stacy's body was allegedly buried. The accomplice told authorities the body was stuffed in a metal drum that had been buried underground.

On Friday afternoon, authorities brought police dogs onto the property and we're told the dogs immediately took them to the place where the witness said the body was buried. Authorities then put prongs in the soil and hit a mass below ground that could be the drum in question.

We're told State Police are now guarding the property and authorities will begin digging tomorrow morning.

Detective Shavedlongcock:

That's what I think... but who knows, even a great investigative detective such as myself could be wrong....

BUT... If Stacy is located in this buried area, my guess is that this information DID NOT COME from a fellow inmate. But some other source...

AND... I would deeply disappointed in Drew if he buried a body on a hunting field... where hunting dogs are sniffing every inch of ground... That doesn't make sense to me at all.

UPDATE - Off-duty Chicago officer shoots her husband

When he comes back into the house the off-duty P/O shoots him in the upper right arm which fractures same. The boyfriend runs back into house, grabs the revolver from the kitchen floor, runs outside and throws it on the lawn.

Another Shocking Death! Well actually a Taser death... Man dies after shock from police Taser

Jose Martinez, 53, of Waukegan died of cardiac arrest after Waukegan police subdued him with a Taser Saturday night.

Man dies after shock from police Taser
Wife not told of death for four days

Details remain sketchy on the circumstances surrounding the death of a Waukegan man who was tasered by police on Saturday.

Jose Martinez, 53, of the 800 block of Grand Avenue, was shocked into submission by a Waukegan police officer about 8 p.m. outside of Dave's Liquors, 2300 Grand Ave., and reportedly suffered cardiac arrest. Lake County Coroner Dr. Richard Keller said Martinez was taken to Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan, where he was pronounced dead.

"He did have a heart condition, demonstrated on autopsy," Keller said. "We listed cause of death as heart condition and tasering as a contributing factor to his death."

Waukegan Police Chief Artis Yancey said the death is under investigation by the Lake County Major Crime Task Force and declined to elaborate.

"There was a situation, and it's still under investigation," Yancey said. "I don't want to cloud the investigation."

The Martinez family is questioning why Sue Martinez, the wife of the victim, was not notified of her husband's death until Wednesday. Son Robert Martinez said it was not unusual for his dad to spend time in Chicago, where he was assumed to be.

Rick Martinez, the victim's brother, a U.S. Army helicopter pilot who lives outside of Atlanta, Ga., said Jose might have been misidentified by police, who were called to the store on a complaint of a disturbance by someone who was panhandling.

On Thursday, a clerk at Dave's Liquors said that police had been called over a panhandling incident. Store owner Hitesh Patel declined to contact the Lake County News-Sun.

Armando Martinez, 58, of Waukegan, another brother of the victim and a former Waukegan police officer, said the woman who was clerking Saturday night told the family that it was a different man who was causing problems at the store. He said he heard that police chased Martinez in the parking lot, stopped him with a Taser, then couldn't revive him.

"I was devastated," said Martinez, who left the police force after he was stabbed breaking up a bar room fight about 20 years ago.

"Until the task force releases its report, we won't know -- was use of a Taser justified. We will find out what happened, then we'll see what action the family wants to take," Martinez said.

Jose Martinez, the father of three grown sons, was over 6 feet tall and weighed about 250 pounds. A graduate of Waukegan High School, he served in the Marine Corps from 1975 to 1977.

Armando Martinez said his brother struggled with addiction issues upon returning from military duty and had some minor run-ins with the police.

"We just want the truth," Rick Martinez said.

Oregon Police Officer Asked to Leave Vegan Coffee Shop

Photo: Police Officer James Crooker

A police officer in Portland, Ore., was asked to leave a vegan coffee shop last month, a discriminatory move but not altogether uncommon at the java joint, a detective told FoxNews.com.

The Red & Black Cafe is no place for a man in blue.

Police Officer James Crooker was asked to leave the vegan coffee shop in Portland, Ore., last month, a discriminatory move but not altogether uncommon at the java joint, a detective told FoxNews.com.

Crooker, 36, a 2-year veteran of the force, entered the Red & Black Café on May 18 and bought a cup of coffee before a customer approached him and said she appreciated his efforts.

That's when John Langley, one of the co-owners of the collectively managed shop, approached the cop and asked him to leave.

Crooker left immediately. It was the first time something like this has happened to him in his nine-year law enforcement career, he told The Oregonian newspaper.

"The places that I've been kicked out of before have been places like the methadone clinic," he said. "You're there to protect them, but on the other hand they don't know what that involves. Being gracious is part of it."

Detective Mary Wheat, a spokeswoman for the Portland Police Department, characterized the incident as a "fluke" but noted the city's ongoing tension between the police and some members of the community.

"This is Portland," Wheat told FoxNews.com. "We have been dealing with that for years and years and years. It's a very liberal city. We have anarchists here and we deal with them on a regular basis."

The coffee shop attracts homeless individuals and activists, the newspaper reported, and Wheat said it is known to be "not friendly" to officers who work the area.

"Most officers would know that this is not a coffee shop that's friendly to police," she said. "It's obviously discrimination to police. He works that area and he can't go in for a cup of coffee -- it's not fair."

The customer who approached Crooker, Cornelia Seigneur, is a freelancer for The Oregonian who blogged about the incident on her website.

"As I spoke with the café owner, I really never got a direct answer as to why he personally felt unsafe with a police officer in his establishment," Seigneur wrote. "Bottom line, I think especially of the policeman I met at the red and black, Officer James Crooker, a human being who should be treated with respect and honor, like all human beings."

Neither Crooker nor Langley could be reached for comment on Friday. An employee who answered the phone at the Red and Black café declined to discuss the incident.

"I've been taking calls about this all day and I'm kind of tired of talking about it," the employee said. "I have a regular job."

This asshole could drop some narcotics in your coffee to make you piss hot or even piss in your coffee.....

As my dad (Pop the Cop) use to say... Nobody can drive a mile without breaking a traffic law... The same thing holds true for a business. Nobody can run a business and not have some violations. Time to hammer this coffee shop daily...

Since you don't want to see me as a customer in here... I will then be a police officer when I come in here... here's your citations... Thank You.

Guys Who LICK, KISS AND SCREW OTHER MENS' ASSES stage "Kiss In" at Alsip Restaurant

REPORTER ON THE SCENE: The whole place smelled like bad ass breath.
Frank Nielsen (center left) and Danny Hankes hold a "kiss-in" at an Alsip restaurant Friday.

Gay rights activists stage 'kiss-in' at Alsip restaurant
About 100 gay rights activists puckered up to prove a point at a south suburban restaurant Friday night.

"It's to educate people that homophobia of any kind is unacceptable," said Frank Nielsen, who organized the "kiss-in" demonstration after being asked by the restaurant's owner last month to stop kissing boyfriend Danny Hankes.

"My boyfriend and me are like anyone else," said Nielsen, 22. "I have straight allies and gay allies with me here tonight."

The protesters, men and women, straight and gay, were greeted calmly by both clientele and the owner of La Fiesta Azteca in Alsip, where at least four police cars idled outside. Once inside, the group clinked water glasses, kissed and applauded.

"They have their opinion, and I have mine," said restaurant owner Jaime Esparza. "I don't feel like I did anything wrong when I told them to leave."

Nielsen and Hankes said they kissed while having dinner at the restaurant in the 12600 block of South Pulaski Road on May 7, then were approached by the owner and told to stop.

"We kissed a few times on the lips, but it was not vulgar," said Hankes, 19, who lives in Lemont.

After being reprimanded, the couple decided to leave, Hankes said. But the owner blocked their path until they paid for their appetizers and drinks.

"The manager puffed out his chest and said, 'You're going to pay,'" Hankes said. "Frankie threw a $20 bill on the table, and we stormed out."

Esparza said he was never hostile and didn't refuse to serve the couple. He said he would ask any couple to respect his restaurant and leave the kissing outside.

"They are saying I kicked them out, but I didn't," he said. "I asked them, really polite, I said, 'I know you guys are in love, and you're young. It's OK. But don't do it here.'

"I said, 'You don't have to get upset. Enjoy your food, your drink also, but behave until you're done. Respect this place.'"

Esparza said the couple came into the restaurant holding hands and exchanging kisses. At one point, they were kissing each other on the neck and other customers began to look uncomfortable. He said he insisted they pay for their food because they ate some of it.

"I said, 'You're going because you want to. I didn't tell you to leave, I told you to behave,'" he said. "If I would be discriminating, I would say you guys are not allowed as soon as they walk in."

After the confrontation, Nielsen said he called the restaurant and asked for an apology and a refund, but Esparza refused.

Nielsen and Hankes said they told their story to friends and supporters at local gay clubs, coffee shops and on Facebook. When they connected with the Gay Liberation Network, they decided to organize Friday's protest.

"We have a law that guarantees gay people equal access to accommodations," said Andy Thayer, co-founder of the Chicago-based Gay Liberation Network. "The fact is, proprietors have no problem with differently sexed couples embracing or kissing in a nonsexual manner. Yet when Frankie and Danny did it, the manager stormed up to them and made a scene."

By protesting, the couple said they hope to expose discrimination in the conservative south suburb.

"I hope the establishment realizes we have a large community that won't be silenced," Nielsen said.

Cook County squad stolen during car and foot chase by Cook County & Chicago Police

Cook County squad stolen during chase
A Cook County sheriff's police car was stolen momentarily following a traffic stop and chase this evening near the Stickney-Chicago border, officials said.

The sheriff's police officer began to make a traffic stop of a man about 5 p.m. at 47th and Knox Avenue, following the man's car with lights activated until he stopped about 2 blocks away near 47th and Kenneth Avenue, said Cook County Sheriff's spokesman Steve Patterson.

The man suddenly put his car into reverse and smashed into the Cook County squad before jumping from the vehicle and running on foot.

The Cook County officer jumped from his squad and began a foot chase, soon joined by a Chicago police officer who had arrived on the scene to help in the traffic stop.

During the foot chase the suspect doubled back and jumped into the Cook County squad, taking off east on 47th with the Chicago police officer on his tail in his squad, Patterson said. That part of the pursuit never reached high speeds and at 47th and Harding Avenue the man turned down an alley and jumped from the Cook County squad.

The Chicago police officer exited his squad and caught the man after a short foot chase.

The entire incident took about 5 minutes from start to finish, Patterson said. The sheriff's police officer was checked out by a Chicago Fire Department ambulance and treated for minor injuries, and no one else was injured.

Patterson said the officer who made the traffic stop is a 17-year employee of the sheriff's office who has been a sheriff's police officer since 2004.

A representative of Chicago Police News Affairs had no additional details, saying Cook County officials were handling the case.

All charges dropped against Chicago cop in fatal crash

Chicago Police Officer John Ardelean leaves the Cook County Criminal Courthouse today after drunk driving and reckless homicide charges against him were dropped in a crash that killed two people. (Michael Tercha/Chicago Tribune)

With a judge's earlier ruling that Chicago Police Officer John Ardelean had been arrested and detained without probable cause, Cook County prosecutors today dropped all charges against him in a crash that killed two people.

The 36-year-old officer was charged with drunken driving and reckless homicide after his SUV broadsided a car on Thanksgiving 2007.

Ardelean, flanked by a handful of police officers, strode silently out of the courthouse without speaking.

The Chicago Police Department later released a statement on the case that said: "The Chicago Police Department's internal investigation of this incident remains open. Officer Ardelean is currently on administrative duty and relieved of police powers."

Minutes after the case was dropped, the relatives of Erick Lagunas, one of the two men killed in the crash, milled disconsolately in front of the courthouse, their eyes wet with tears.

"We are very disappointed," Mayra Lagunas, a cousin of Lagunas said, her voice shaking. "I can't say that we didn't expect it after what happened last time. It hurts that they've taken something from us and we don't matter.

She said that while the family believes prosecutors did everything they could, it was not enough to overcome what they believe was a case of Ardelean's fellow officers covering up for him.

"(We're) angry with the government, the police department who covered for each other," she said, stuffing her shaking hands into her pants pockets. "We all sat in that room and saw them lie through their teeth."

She said that prosecutors spoke to family members before court to let them know of the decision to drop the case, saying they had pursued every legal option.

"The state's attorney said they pushed everything as far as they could," she said. "It's a joke -- they said we could continue with our civil suit, but no amount of money will pay for our loss."

Late Friday afternoon, Daniel O'Connor, the attorney for the Flores and Lagunas families and for the third person injured in the accident, relatives of the victims settled their civil suit against Ardelean. O'Connor said the Flores and Lagunas families settled about nine months ago; the third victim settled recently.

Citing the families' privacy, O'Connor would not disclose the amounts of the settlement but said that Ardelean's insurance company paid the maximum amount it could to the families. He also praised the insurance company for doing the right thing in its handling of the case.

The Cook County State's Attorney's Office released this statement regarding the criminal case:

"Regrettably, the Cook County State's Attorney's Office today dismissed charges of Aggravated DUI and Reckless Homicide against Chicago Police Officer John Ardelean, who was charged with causing an automobile crash that killed Miguel Flores and Erick Lagunas on November 22, 2007.

"A court ruling in this case last month quashed Officer Ardelean's arrest and suppressed key blood alcohol evidence that would have been required to enable the prosecution to meet its burden of proof and proceed with the case in good faith.

"Following that ruling, the Cook County State's Attorney's Office conducted an extensive and in-depth review to determine whether there were any grounds to appeal the court's ruling or continue onward with the case without the evidence that was suppressed.

"Unfortunately, it was determined that there were insufficient grounds to appeal the ruling and without the ability to use the evidence that was suppressed, the State's Attorney's Office could not move forward with this case in the good faith that the law requires.

"As tragic as this case is for the victims and their families, prosecutors have a legal and ethical obligation to only pursue cases in which there is sufficient evidence to meet that burden."

Mayra Lagunas' sister, Victoria Lagunas, said she believed the family was denied justice because of racism.

"I guess there's nothing more to say - it just goes to show the dispensability of people in this city," she said. "It does go to race and societal ranking."

She said it was hard to see Ardelean walk out of court, and said she didn't try to say anything to him as he left.

"It was difficult watching him walk out," she said. "There's no conscience, I don't believe he feels bad."
Erick Lagunas' mother, Maria Lagunas, uncle Mario Lagunas and cousin Victoria Lagunas, from left, talk to reporters after charges were dropped against Chicago Police Officer John Ardelean. (Michael Tercha/Chicago Tribune)

The Lagunas family said the family of Miguel Flores, the other man killed in the crash, declined to appear for the hearing, though they were told of the state's attorney's decision beforehand.

Prosecutors have said Ardelean, who was off duty, drank three beers and four shots at a River North bar just before the crash at Damen and Oakdale avenues that killed Lagunas, 21, and Flores, 22 about 2:50 a.m. Nov. 22, 2007.

According to published reports at the time, Ardelean was driving a Dodge Durango SUV northbound on Damen when a car slowed in front of him. He drove around that car, crossed the center lane and returned to the proper lane before broadsiding a westbound 2006 Pontiac Grand Am. Police said he was travelling about 60 mph at the time of the accident.

The Grand Am, driven by Lagunas, did not stop at a stop sign at Oakdale and Damen before accelerating in front of Ardelean's vehicle, which had the right of way, according to published reports. Prosecutors later said that according to witnesses, the driver of the Grand Am had also been drinking. According to a source, his blood alcohol level at the time of his autopsy was .074.

Officers who had been on the scene later testified they had no indication Ardelean was drunk at the scene.

A police supervisor at the district later ordered Ardelean to submit to a Breathalyzer, but Judge Thomas Gainer Jr. ruled in April that police had no probable cause to arrest and detain him, let along force him to take the test, which showed a blood alcohol level of .032, below the legal threshold of .08.

Gainer harshly criticized police Lt. John Magruder, who ordered Ardelean arrested a few hours after the crash, saying he had detected alcohol on his breath and noticed bloodshot eyes.

None of the four police officers at the crash scene -- or a responding Chicago Fire Department emergency medical technician -- reported noticing any sign that Ardelean was drunk.

The case has been on a legal roller coaster.

Ardelean initially was charged with misdemeanor drunken driving, but the charges were later upgraded to a felony, with prosecutors citing a video recording from the nightclub where Ardelean had been drinking.

The next month a judge dismissed the charges, not convinced by a prosecution expert who calculated that Ardelean's blood-alcohol level at the time of the crash would have been above the legal threshold. The Breathalyzer test administered eight hours after the crash showed Ardelean was well below that level at the time.

But three months later, following pressure from the families and some politicians, the state's attorney's office reopened the probe after the bar video was aired on television. The next month, Ardelean was charged with the counts that were dropped today.

A man who entered a Wisconsin home wearing a large diaper and stole dirty diapers was sentenced to 30 months probation, WSAW reported Thursday.

Dillon Makuski, 20, of Amherst, was also sentenced to 200 hours of community service and will undergo a psycho-sexual examination after he stole dirty diapers from the Portage County home last September.

Makuski, wearing a large diaper, entered the home looking for dirty diapers after he was unable to find any in the garbage bins outside, according to a criminal complaint.

New York State parole board votes to release 1973 cop killer

THE YEAR IS 1973 - 37 years ago - And these were MUSLIMS calling a war on injustices against Muslims - Which means the same thing then that it does now - MUSLIMS HATE WHITIE & MUSLIMS HATE THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.... Amazing than even after all these years of Muslims hating everything about America and their people that we end up with a MUSLIM LOVING PRESIDENT - We have so many STUPID FUCKS IN THIS COUNTRY VOTING!

The Brooklyn suspects on their way to arraignment; (l-r)Dawud Abdullah ar-Rahman, Shuaib Abdullah Raheem and Salih-Ali Abdullah.

A state parole board has voted to release a cop-killing kidnapper involved in a 47-hour hostage standoff in Brooklyn in 1973, officials said today.

Shuaib Raheem was initially granted parole three years ago in a decision that was later rescinded after it sparked a raft of outrage from the cop’s widow and Police Commissioner Ray Kelly.

Raheem, 60, was informed today that he will be paroled. He is slated to be released on July 8 from the Eastern Correctional Facility in Napanoch, a prison located in upstate Ulster County.

The parole board in Albany voted 2-1 to release Raheem.

The board had previously denied his request six times.

"Tragically, in the case of this murdering animal, the worst possible decision was made." said PBA President Pat Lynch.

Raheem was 23 when he and three other young men barged into John & Al's Sporting Goods on Broadway in Williamsburg to steal rifles and ammo from the shelves for what he called a war on injustices against Muslims.

After Officer Stephen Gilroy was shot in the head, his body stayed inside along with the wounded cops for two days before the men gave themselves up.

Lynch said cop killers should spend the rest of their lives behind bars.

"We firmly believe that this demands the incarceration for life for all cop killers regardless of when they were convicted," he said.

Chicago Police squad vandalized - Beat 811 - Garfield Ridge

From Fellow Blogger - In And Around Garfield Ridge

This is what happens when the thugs in our area are confident that people don't call the police in our neighborhood. We are not saying that anyone saw this happening but the criminals are aware that we probably will not call when suspicious people are around. We have to stop being so passive as a community. We have said it before and will say it again-if something does not look right-CALL THE POLICE.

For those of you who do call, thank you and continue to do so. We cannot let this happen in OUR neighborhood!

Oh and lastly- a big "fuck you" to whoever did this to the car.
